Chisholm Trail Middle School – New Science Building

Location

Round Rock, Texas

Status

Completed 2012

Originally built in 1981, KAH Architecture  gave the facility a facelift. New wood floors line the facility and lighting upgrades sparkle throughout the halls and classrooms. Air Conditioning was added to the original gymnasium areas and a new football stadium restroom facility was completed for home and visiting patrons alike.

In 2000, Chisholm Trail received new multi-purpose facility additions, including a 4,800 sf secondary gym, a 990 sf stage, a 400 sf weight room, new restrooms and much needed storage spaces.

Continuing to oversee the longevity of the Chisholm Trail Middle School, KAH completed a 10,700 square foot science wing addition in 2012. The addition houses 4 new science laboratories, 2 Prep Rooms, 1 Project Research Room, 1 Group Study Room, and boys and girls Restrooms. Built adjacent to the existing school, this addition enclosed a new courtyard to serve as an outdoor science learning area.

Expansive glazing and 12 foot ceilings in each classroom allow for a sense of openness and connectivity between indoor and outdoor learning environments. Large awnings and sun screens were designed to block direct solar heat gain through the glazing while the awnings serve as exterior shelves from which natural light can be reflected throughout the classrooms.

Additional site improvements include a new bus drive aisle on the east side of the campus, a new parking lot, and improvements to the storm water system.
