Twin Lakes YMCA

Location

Cedar Park, Texas

This multi-purpose facility for the YMCA of Greater Williamson County is located at Twin Lakes Park in Cedar Park, Texas. The first phase consists of an approximately 35,000 sf main building utilizing tiltwall, structural steel and masonry means of construction. Phase One also includes a separate 2,600 sf pool house/equipment building along with an outdoor pool with water features and slides. The bright, airy, and open multi-purpose building houses a gymnasium, aerobics room, multi-purpose room, wellness center, meeting room, childcare areas, locker facilities, administrative offices, and other support functions. The design features dynamic, curving shapes, bright colors and ample natural light. Finishes offer optimum flexibility and durability to support constant use.

Anticipated as a part of the long range master plan, the Twin Lakes Family YMCA gains a 9,656 square foot natatorium, a 2,100 square foot teen center, a 2,277 square foot aerobics room, and a 900 square foot cardio theater.

Providing multiple ways for the family to stay cool during the Texas heat and keep fit throughout the year, the natatorium addition sports a four (4) lane lap pool, a zero entry splash pad with umbrella, a 12-foot slide, a warm water therapy pool, a spa, a sauna, and conveniently located changing rooms. 11 overhead doors surround the space on three perimeter walls giving the pool area the benefits of natural light and cooling ventilation. The doors open to a new outdoor deck connected to an existing outdoor pool. Adding to the indoor/outdoor environment, two (2) 10-foot operable skylights open for extra natural light and ventilation.

Adjacent to the new natatorium sits the new teen center – a space artistically designed to expose the full 16-foot tall steel structure with surrounding glass walls to create a large open space overlooking the existing outdoor pool. Teens enjoying the pool are able to access an interior walk up concession bar to purchase snacks and drinks. Complementing the exposed steel structure and expansive glazing, the stained concrete floors and industrial lighting fixtures at the bar create a modern teen “hangout”. Topping it all off, the space is furnished with comfortable couches, computers, televisions, and gaming stations.

While teens are entertained for hours on end in the teen center and new natatorium, parents can enjoy the addition of the 2,227 square foot aerobics room. Made with concrete tilt-wall construction, this space is an expansion to the existing facility. An 18-foot tall ceiling and wood sports floor gives ample room for the next aerob-i-thon or work out class of choice.

The crowning jewel – a 900 square foot cardio theater. Designed for the entertainment junkie to stay fit, this three tiered floor with strip lighting and wall scones holds treadmills, ellipticals, and other cardio equipment to evoke the cinematic experience with a twist.
