Round Rock ISD
Berkman Elementary School

Size: 71,062 sf
Cost: $5,334,000
Completed: 1998

Though originally intended to be a new facility, Berkman Elementary School a lack of acceptable sites within the attendance area required the school to remodel on existing property. Two additional acres adjacent to the current building enabled the much needed expansion. The facility was constructed in three phases allowing classes to continue throughout construction.

Renovations and additions included: additional parking and a separate bus drop-off area – both served by covered walkways, two playground areas allowing age separation, relocation of the music room allowing easy access to the stage, an art room allowing for natural light sources, a separate loading area for the kitchen, and a specially designed room for “EXCEL CITY,” a nationally recognized fifth grade project which establishes a small city within the school.
